The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, has expressed optimism about Nigerian tennis after attending matches at the ongoing 2026 ITF J30 World Tennis Tour in Abuja. He described the tournament as a strong boost for grassroots development and youth exposure.
Adeboye, who observed several matches, said the level of competition reflects Nigeria’s growing junior talent base. According to him, watching young players compete confidently against international opponents shows that the country possesses the raw potential to become a formidable force in global tennis.
The ITF J30 tournament is part of the structured junior pathway of the International Tennis Federation, offering ranking points and vital international experience. Adeboye emphasized that sustained support and structured engagement at early stages are essential to producing world-class professionals.
He also commended the Nigeria Tennis Federation and the National Sports Commission for successfully hosting the event, noting that such initiatives align with the Federal Government’s broader agenda of youth empowerment and global competitiveness through sports.
