Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, has stressed that recognition in sports and public service must be based on genuine impact rather than publicity. Adeboye made the remarks while chairing the Newstap/SWAN 5-Star Awards ceremony, where outstanding individuals were honoured for their contributions to sports development and youth empowerment in Nigeria.

Among the awardees celebrated at the ceremony were Duoye Diri, Philip Shaibu, Yetunde Olopade, and boxing promoter Omolei Imadu. The SSA described the recognition as a celebration of individuals whose dedication has positively impacted communities and advanced sports development from the grassroots level.

Adeboye noted that sustainable progress in sports requires discipline, commitment, and visionary leadership from administrators and private sector stakeholders who create opportunities for young talents across the country. He highlighted the role played by organisations such as Nilayo Sports Management Limited in positioning Nigeria as a destination for international road races through events like the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon and other major competitions.

Reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to sports development, Adeboye stated that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to strengthen grassroots sports structures across the country. The Newstap/SWAN 5-Star Awards ceremony brought together sports administrators, journalists, athletes, and stakeholders to celebrate individuals whose contributions continue to shape Nigeria’s sports ecosystem.
