Spanish guard Ari Geli has turned her Barcelona streetball beginnings into a growing presence on the global 3×3 basketball stage, proving that determination and skill can outweigh physical limitations in modern basketball.
Born and raised in Barcelona, Geli developed her love for basketball on public courts across the city, where the half-court format naturally encouraged 3×3 basketball. What started as casual street games soon became a passion that shaped her career path in the fast-growing format of the sport.
“I was born and raised in Barcelona, and I am lucky because it is a city with a lot of streetball,” Geli said. “Many times you play 3×3 on a half court. That is where I fell in love with this format.” Over time, that early exposure evolved into a professional ambition, pushing her to compete at higher levels internationally.
Standing at 1.60m (5’3″), Geli has had to compete against taller and more physical opponents throughout her career. Instead of seeing her height as a disadvantage, she focused on developing her strengths, particularly her two-point shooting ability, which has become a key weapon in her game.
“Height and size are very important,” she admitted. “What has helped me compete in top leagues is excitement, desire to learn, surrounding myself with the best players, and developing my strengths.” Her approach reflects a mindset built on growth, discipline, and confidence in her abilities.
Through resilience and commitment, Geli continues to establish herself in international 3×3 basketball, demonstrating how streetball culture, perseverance, and skill development can open doors to the global stage.
