Bayelsa Scrabblers Intensify Preparation For Sports Festival

The Bayelsa State Scrabble Association is leaving nothing to chance as it intensifies preparations ahead of the 20th National Sports Festival.

On Saturday, Joseph Aniso and Abule Ateh emerged winners of the second edition of the state’s scrabble retreat held at the indoor hall of the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

Aniso won in Category A after 12 rounds, winning eight games, amassing 16 points and a cumulative score of +743.

Iteimo Birigeni finished second with eight wins and +461 cumulative score while Timi Woko and Ben Quickpen came third and fourth respectively.

In Category B, Ateh came out tops after 10 rounds, winning seven games with 14 points and +609 cumulative score.

Pipa Preye came second winning seven games while August Desmond and Douglas Borogha placed third and fourth respectively.

The third edition of the retreat would hold this weekend at the same venue.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of five new scrabble boards to the Bayelsa State Sports Council by the newly appointed chairman of the scrabble association, Mr. Daniel Alabrah.
