TP Mazembe coach Lamia Boumedhi hailed her players’ mental strength and focus after their stunning 3-1 comeback victory over Edo Queens in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League semi-finals. The DR Congo champions overcame an early setback to eliminate the Nigerian WAFU-B champions, who had been favourites heading into the clash.

“I am very happy and satisfied with this result,” said Boumedhi. “I congratulate my players for pouring their hearts out and playing with grit. Our secret was mental strength. I told them to remain focused until the referee’s final whistle, even if we conceded a goal.”

Despite conceding early, TP Mazembe regrouped with tactical adjustments and seized control of the game, scoring three unanswered goals to book their place in the final. Their resilience stood out against a formidable Edo Queens side that had shown consistency throughout the tournament.

TP Mazembe will now face host club AS FAR in the final, while Edo Queens will play Masar FC of Egypt in the third-place playoff.

The championship match promises to be thrilling, with TP Mazembe aiming to secure their maiden title and AS FAR looking to defend their crown on home soil.
