Veteran Super eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi featured for his club, Kaizer Chiefs against Bidvest Wits only to suffer a fatal injury late in the first half through a collision with an opposing player on Sunday.
The unfortunate incident resulted to the match being put into a halt as the ‘wounded Lion’, Daniel Akpeyi received medical attention at the sidelines which lasted for about eight minutes.
Updates on his injury affirm that since he could not continue the game on Sunday, and was eventually taken off on a stretcher by the medics, many have been put in dark regarding how long it will take for him to recuperate.
His injury spell could last for months probably and the Super eagles team could only hope he recovers with utmost expediency as the African Cup of Nations has been rescheduled from June/July to January 9th/February 6th 2021.
The implication is not farfetched as Super eagles of Nigeria could sweat heavily on Akpeyi’s fitness as they could be forced to rummage their gallery intensively in search of compatible and satisfactory goalkeeper as replacement for the upcoming African competition.
