Attempts by Mr Chris Isiguzo, the National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to factionalise Sports Writers Association of Nigeria(SWAN) has hit the rocks as Ado Salisu, the purported leader of the faction he created has dumped him.
Salisu, a respected member of SWAN said this in a Statement entitled “Re: National SWAN Condoles Ado Salisu Over Mother’s Death” on Tuesday.
Salisu who was a former Vice President SWAN North-West, Zone, said he was never an Acting President of the association which he was referred to in the purported condolence letter.
He said he was rejecting the antics of detractors who had vowed to destroy the noble sports writing body that had joined in building for a long time.
Salisu said he was aligning himself with the leadership of President Honour Sirawo while pledging his commitment to a virile SWAN and would do all it took to support the association.
According to him, my attention has been drawn to a publication on an online platform on the above subject matter.
“In the same publication drawn from a statement purportedly issued by Mike Oboh, I was erroneously referred to as Acting President of SWAN.
“I wish to state unequivocally that the said statement is suspicious and certainly the handiwork of those bent on destroying Sports Writing vis-a-vis the Association and I hereby distance myself from such act
To the best of my knowledge, Mike Oboh is in the village following some health challenges and could not have issued such a statement.
“Even when he was unable to call and console me over my mother’s death, neither has anybody particularly those who desperately want SWAN divided called me.
“I refused to henceforth allow myself to be part of anything that will destroy the Association we have all laboured to build.
“Towards this end, I wish to state categorically that going forward, I support the leadership of SWAN under Honour Sirawoo because together we stand, divided we fall.
