Lions Of Naija Ranks High Amongst Africa’s Most Followed Clubs In The Continent

Vandrezzer Football Club has hit another milestone after being named the Top 30 of Africa’s most followed football club.

The latest ranking released by the Digital Football Benchmark sees VFC with over 429,000 followers, as the only Nigerian team in continent’s top 40, placing 29th on the overall rankings, one place below Algerian giants USM Algiers (28th) and a spot above Smouha of Egypt (30th).

Egyptian giants and Africa’s Club of the Century Al-Ahly retained number spot in Africa with about 33 million followers on all platforms, ahead of rival club Zamalek (13 million), Moroccan powerhouse Raja Club (7 million), while South African giants Kaizer Chiefs (6 million) and Orlando Pirates (4 million) complete the top 5 list of Most Followed African Clubsides.

The Rankings

Asides Smouha, Vandrezzer FC also bettered some top African clubsides including: Asec Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire (31st), Al Merriek of Sudan (32nd), South African sides Bidvests Wits (34th), Bloemfontein Celtic (36th), and Maritzburg United (37th).

VFC first broke into the Digital Football Benchmark ranking in August 2020, about a month to our first anniversary, when a followership base of around 281,000 followers landed us in 37th place ahead of South African side Amazulu (254k) and just below Maritzburg (291k) who are now eight places below VFC.

As usual, we have our esteemed supporters to thank for this latest landmark, and urge you to keep aligning with us, as we continue building a brand that Nigeria and Africa would be proud of.
