Mayoress throws weight behind Lagos Street Soccer Championship

The Executive chairperson of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, Princess Samiat Abonlanle Bada has thrown her weight in support of the successful hosting of the 2023 Lagos Street Soccer championship.

During a courtesy visit to her office by the Lagos Street Soccer Championship committee led by its chairman Bolaji Yusuf, the council’s Mayoress assured of her full support for the Lagos Street Soccer championship which she described as an integral component to engaging youths and also serves as an avenue for talent discovery.

She stated that aside from education, sports, and football in particular, is a powerful tool which can be used to empower young and talented youth with skills. It is also an avenue for re-integration of the marginalised into mainstream society and curb social vice in the community.

She said “the Lagos Street Soccer championship is a timely intervention program and lofty goal. The Lagos State Football Association, headed by Ogboni Fouad Alade Oki are doing everything possible to create a platform for grassroots footballers to exhibit their innate talent.

“Football has the unique power to bring people of diverse backgrounds, gender and interests together. As a sport enthusiast I am assuring you of my full commitment and dedication towards the success of the Lagos Street Soccer championship.

“We have different football pitches within Ikosi-Isheri which was used to host Lagos Street Soccer games in the past. I can assure you we’re also ready to host some games during this coming championship as well.”

In his response, the Chairman of Lagos Street Soccer committee Bolaji Yusuf thanked the Mayoress for her hospitality and keen interest in promoting grassroots football.

He said “This courtesy visit is an opportunity to engage critical stakeholders within the Ikosi-Isheri environment ahead of the upcoming Lagos Street Soccer championship.

“Thankfully, Mayoress Samiat, who is also a member of Lagos Street Soccer committee, has demonstrated keen interest and the readiness of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA to fully participate in the championship.”

The 2023 Lagos Street Soccer championship will kick-off on October 15, 2023 with the opening ceremony and official kick-off of the 5-a-side football championship to be held at Obele Odan Playing Ground, Surulere, Lagos.
