As the 2020 National Sports Festival in Benin City, Edo State draws nearer, the Festival’s symbol of unity, peace and growth in Nigeria, the Torch of Unity, has been moving across the 36 States’ Capitals of the Country, including the FCT, Abuja, in a way to create awareness of the Events and re-echo its relevance to national peace, cohesion and development.
While some states of the Federation, including the FCT, Abuja, have received the Torch of Unity, it will be the turn of Lafia, Nasarawa State Capital, to receive it on Saturday, 8th February, 2020, by 11 o’clock in the morning.
His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Audu Sule, Executive Governor of Nasarawa State will receive the Torch at the Stadium, Lafia, after it has been handed over to the Director of Sports at Mararaban Akunza intersection, Makurdi Road, Lafia, by the leader of the delegation and North Central Zonal Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Saka Akeem, who would then pass it to the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, at the City Stadium, Bukan Sidi, before the Commissioner would hand it over to the Governor for his goodwill message and later pass it to the State’s athletes’ representative who would move with it round the Stadium tracks before returning it to the Coordinator for onward movement to other States for similar ceremony.
Speaking on the readiness of Nasarawa State for the reception of the Torch, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Othman Bala Adam, assured of leaving no stone unturned to host the delegation in grandstyle.
“Preparations are in top gear and we are equal to the task
“We are patiently waiting for them(delegation) and when they come, we will treat them to our hospitality and finesse.”
The 20th National Sports Festival will hold in Benin City, Edo State, from 20th March to 2nd April, 2020, and Team Nasarawa will be participating at the Events.
