The National Sports Commission (NSC) recently welcomed representatives from the Presidential Office of Digital Engagement & Strategy (PODES) for a collaborative visit aimed at advancing President Bola Tinubu’s vision for a digitally enabled, safe, and transformative sports sector in Nigeria. Led by Senior Special Assistants Otega Ogra and Ishaq Ahmed Ningi, the PODES team met with newly appointed NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko. Together, they discussed strategies to harness digital engagement for elevating Nigerian sports, enhancing public safety, and using sports as a medium for youth development and economic growth in line with the President’s broader social development goals. “Our discussions with PODES were centred around Mr President’s vision for a transformative sports sector,” Dikko remarked. “By combining PODES’ expertise in digital engagement with our sports development goals, we can create a sector that resonates with Nigerians, showcases our talent globally, and prioritizes safety across all levels.”
This collaborative initiative highlights the government’s commitment to using digital tools to amplify Nigeria’s sports narrative. PODES will lead in crafting digital communication strategies to broadcast Nigerian sports achievements, reflecting Tinubu’s vision of connecting with both national and international audiences. By leveraging government digital platforms, PODES aims to inspire pride in Nigeria’s sports successes while enhancing national unity. The briefing session underscored the importance of storytelling and narrative-building through digital platforms, with Chairman Dikko commending PODES’ commitment to creating engaging content and expanding Nigeria’s influence in global sports.
In addition to engagement, public safety and emergency preparedness for sports venues and events were prominent discussion topics. PODES’ emergency management expertise, particularly from its VP’s office team, will support the NSC in developing comprehensive safety protocols for athletes and spectators. “Ensuring safety at our sports venues is essential to showcase Nigeria as a capable host for national and international events,” said Dikko. With these measures, Nigeria will be better prepared to safely host high-profile events, aligning with the NSC’s vision for a modern, secure sports sector.
The visit set a strong foundation for PODES to play an active role in digital communications for sports and emergency preparedness, aligning with the Tinubu administration’s broader goals for national development. Dikko expressed deep appreciation for Ogra and Ningi’s insights, emphasizing that their “whole-of-government approach” to partnerships will strengthen the nation’s sports infrastructure.
