Nigeria’s leadership in para sports took center stage at the inaugural West Africa Para Games in Abeokuta, where President of the Nigeria Amputee Football Federation (NAFF), Chief Paul Maduakor, was widely celebrated for his outstanding contributions. His intervention ensured that teams attended, competed, and proudly represented their nations, marking a historic milestone for amputee football in West Africa. Notably, Chief Maduakor personally funded a $1,000 travel grant that enabled the Benin Republic Amputee Football Team to participate in their first-ever international competition.
In a remarkable show of unity and sportsmanship, all participating teams from Nigeria, Benin Republic, and Cameroon were fully kitted with high-quality jerseys and tracksuits provided by ProStar Sports International, an initiative made possible through Chief Maduakor’s sponsorship. The gesture resonated strongly across the region, earning praise from officials including Mr. Usman Mustapha, President of Cameroon Amputee Football and Vice President of Amputee Football Africa, who described it as a major step toward deepening regional cooperation in para football.
The Benin Republic delegation, led by Mr. Vincent Sayi, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Chief Maduakor and the Nigerian hosts, emphasizing that their debut on the international stage was only possible because of the financial support, mentorship, and hospitality they received. He also extended gratitude to CAAF Secretary General Mr. Peter Oloo and the Games’ organizers, applauding the event as exceptional, educational, and unforgettable for every participant involved.
