NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko Unveils Bold Vision for Nigerian Sports Revolution

The newly appointed Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has outlined an ambitious transformation agenda for Nigerian sports during a recent interview on TVC News Network.

Drawing from his extensive experience working with various Sports Ministers and committees, Dikko emphasized the need to replicate football’s successful funding model across other sports disciplines. “We aim to create a balanced structure that benefits all sports equally,” he stated.

Key points in his reform agenda include:

  • Transforming the NSC into a business-oriented organization
  • Establishing zonal offices for better grassroots development
  • Creating clear pathways from local to national level sports
  • Implementing new funding mechanisms through the Sports Commission Act
  • Developing nationwide sports infrastructure
  • Improving the operation of Sports Federations

“Sports is our national asset, and we must treat it as such,” Dikko declared. He acknowledged that funding constitutes about 80% of the challenges facing Nigerian sports and promised significant reforms in the coming months.

The chairman also stressed the importance of proper infrastructure development across the country to enhance athlete production and performance at the national level.

“Our administration will be accountable,” Dikko assured, inviting stakeholders to monitor the commission’s progress in implementing these reforms over the next few months.
