National Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko outlined his vision for transforming Nigeria’s sports landscape in an interview on Arise TV, emphasizing the critical need for equal development across all sporting disciplines. The NSC chief articulated a comprehensive strategy to leverage football’s successful model to elevate other sports, marking a significant shift in national sports administration policy.

“We have to use our passion for football to facilitate other sports to come along. Every sport should be allowed to develop and to function optimally within its ecosystem,” Dikko declared, highlighting his commitment to balanced growth. This approach aims to create a more diverse and robust sports environment, moving beyond the traditional football-centric focus that has dominated Nigerian sports.

The NSC chairman reassured all sports federations strongly, stating, “There should be no fear. We’re not going to leave anything behind for the total development of all sports and the ecosystem. Every sport will get its fair share, what it deserves, the way it should be done and supported to do what it is supposed to do.” This commitment represents a pivotal shift in resource allocation and development strategy for Nigerian sports.

Looking ahead, Dikko emphasized how football’s established infrastructure and success could serve as a blueprint for other sports’ development: “The football experience will help jumpstart us to where we need to be with other sports, as we continue to develop all-round.” This strategic vision aims to create a comprehensive sports ecosystem where all federations can thrive, contributing to both national pride and economic development through sports diversity.
