Pacesetter Queens produced a determined performance in their first home match of the 2025 NWFL season but narrowly lost 2–1 to Rivers Angels in Ibadan. Rivers Angels took the lead inside the first minute when Grace Saliu finished expertly from a Ramotalahi Kareem cross. The Queens immediately pushed forward in search of a response, and in the 24th minute Olaronke Ola came close to leveling the score, striking the crossbar before Anderline Mgbechi pulled off a sharp save on the rebound to keep Rivers Angels ahead.
The pressure eventually paid off in the 28th minute when Samantha Victor calmly slotted home the equalizer for Pacesetter Queens after a well-worked buildup. The hosts looked energized and continued to press, but Rivers Angels regained control before halftime. In the 40th minute, Ramotalahi Kareem restored the visitors’ lead, finishing from a Polinus Ifeoma free kick to make it 2–1. Despite a spirited second-half effort from the Queens, they were unable to convert their chances and break down the compact Rivers Angels defense.
The defeat marks the second straight loss for the Oyo State side, who had earlier fallen to Ibom Angels in their opening away game in Uyo. Still, their home performance showed clear signs of promise, with improved teamwork, creativity, and confidence growing within the squad despite the early-season setbacks.
Pacesetter Queens now turn their attention to a tough trip to Yenagoa, where they will face Bayelsa Queens in their next fixture. With their recent displays showing grit and progress, the team remains hopeful of securing a positive result as they continue their push for momentum in the NWFL campaign.
