Ibadan is preparing to host its most inclusive cycling event yet, with the 3rd Annual Cycling Competition set to welcome over 150 cyclists from across Nigeria on November 2nd, 2024. The competition showcases remarkable age diversity, featuring five categories ranging from toddlers to adults, ensuring participation opportunities for cyclists of all skill levels and ages.
The event organizers have prioritized safety and logistics, securing support from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and local police to manage traffic along the scenic Airport Road route in Alakia. A dedicated medical team will be present throughout the competition, demonstrating the organizers’ commitment to participant wellbeing.
“The purpose of this event is to nurture and showcase the talents of our young cyclists from rural areas, providing them with an opportunity to reach their full potential,” explains Convener Mr. Adebayo Olawale Samson, highlighting the event’s focus on grassroots development. This vision is backed by the collaborative efforts of Lapet Feats International and Oyo State Cycling Association in nurturing Nigeria’s cycling future.
The competition goes beyond just sport, incorporating educational incentives through its prize structure. Winners and runners-up will receive not only medals but also valuable educational materials including textbooks, notebooks, and stationery. Additionally, all participants will be awarded certificates of participation, recognizing their commitment to the sport and encouraging continued involvement in cycling activities.
