Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the group stage of the African 2022 World Cup qualifiers till September.
The qualifiers were originally billed for June but due to current challenges caused by the coronavirus, the body has decided to move the commencement of the qualifiers to later in the year.
In its press release dated 6th May 2020 which reads “The CAF emergency committee in consultation with FIFA have decided to postpone the CAF qualifiers for the FIFA World cup Qatar 2022 that where made to be played in June 2021 after taken into consideration the challenges the current challenges caused by the Covid19 pandemic and the need to ensure optimal playing ground for all participating teams.
‘The qualifiers will now take place in the existing windows of September, October, November 2021 and March 2022.
‘CAF is releasing it’s protocol and process in enhance the implementations of Covid related protocol including specifically focusing on pre-match testing which has been source of some challenges in previous windows.
