After a stinging 2-0 loss to Remo Stars midweek, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) bounced back emphatically, defeating Abia Warriors 2-0 in Ibadan during Matchday 15 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2024/25 season.
The Oluyole Warriors started strong, pressing the visitors with intent. Their breakthrough came in the 39th minute when Anthony Okachi converted a penalty with poise, sending the home crowd into jubilation. Just before halftime, midfielder John Akpan doubled the lead with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, leaving Abia Warriors goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
Despite Abia Warriors’ attempts to claw back in the second half, the resilient Shooting Stars’ defence, marshalled by captain Gali Falke, held firm. Goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal made key saves to preserve the clean sheet. “This win was about character. We needed to respond, and we did,” said head coach Ogunbote.
The victory lifts the Shooting Stars’ spirits and momentum as they aim to climb the NPFL table. “We owed our fans this win. After the Remo Stars game, we promised to fight back, and we delivered,” Okachi said. Shooting Stars next face Sunshine Stars of Akure, hoping to extend their resurgence.
