SportsFlames/MFM FC Player Of The Season Award: Organisers Set To Make History With Inclusion Of Cash Reward

Organizer of the Sportflames/MFM FC Player Of The Season Award has informed that there will be a cash reward for the winner of this year’s edition.

Petit midfielder Onuwa Chukwuka (now with Lobi Stars) wins the inaugural edition in 2017 owing to his brilliant form for the Olukoya Boys as they qualified for the CAF Champions League and was also instrumental in the famous CNN Goal Of The Week scored by Sikiru Olatunbosun against Rangers at the Agege Stadium.

Olatoye Olawale, Online Editor of SportFlames expressed his delight that the award is back for good and packaged better.

“The situation and off course the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hasn’t made it possible for the brand to host the award in the past three years but at the end of the 2020/21 NPFL season a new winner will emerge.

“The project is our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to rewarding a player’s excellence after having distinguished himself on and off the pitch for the Olukoya Boys in the current season.

“Recall in the first edition we had Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun make the final cut, despite not winning, the duo has made it to Europe to improve on their careers.

“This year’s event will be different as we will offer not just a memorable plaque but also cash for the winner to take home.

“The Sportflames brand hopes to keep improving on the award by hosting it yearly, and also aside MFM FC, we plan to partner other NPFL clubs to stagging this awards.”

The quartet of Vice-Captain Akanni Elijah (Attacking Midfielder), Adeniyi Bamidele (Goalkeeper), Adeyinka Najeem (Defender), and Adikwu Moses (Defender) made the final shortlist of nominees for the Player Of The Season Award.

A voting portal where Sports Journalists and fans can vote for the nominee of their choice has been opened on the website bit.ly/sportflamesmfmpoty.

The winner will be announced on Match Day 36 and the presentation of the award will be on MFM FC’s last home game of the season against Jigawa Golden Stars, on 8th August 2021 at the Agege Stadium (Soccer Temple).
