The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has assigned match officials from Togo and Morocco for the much-anticipated African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying matches between Nigeria and Ghana. The first leg is set for Sunday, 22nd December 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, while the second leg will be held on 28th December at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
In Accra, Togolese referee Aklesso Gnama will oversee proceedings, assisted by compatriots Jonathan Ahonto Koffi and Wassiou Tchamolla Ourotou as Assistant Referees 1 and 2, with Kossi Fabrice Senyo as the Fourth Official. Ivan Gator Brown from Liberia will act as match commissioner, and Beninoise referee assessor Hugues Alain Adjovi will ensure compliance with officiating standards.
The return leg in Uyo will feature Moroccan officials led by referee Hamza El Fariq. He will be supported by assistants Abdessamad Abertoune and Zakaria Bouchtaoui, with Hicham Temsamani serving as the Fourth Official. Sierra Leonean Prince Kai Saquee will be the match commissioner, while Miboti Moise from DR Congo will act as referee assessor.
The aggregate winner of this high-stakes encounter will advance to the 8th African Nations Championship, scheduled to take place from 1st to 28th February 2025. Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will co-host the event, which also serves as a trial for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, set to be held in the same nations.
Both teams are poised for a fierce contest, with Nigeria aiming for redemption after a poor showing in the last CHAN qualifiers and Ghana determined to secure a spot in the continental showpiece. The Accra game kicks off at 4 PM local time (5 PM Nigerian time), with the Uyo return leg starting at 5 PM.
