President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation Hon. Daniel Baraladei Igali said in a communique after the Board’s meeting, that the grant will be used to purchase equipment for the Wrestling gymnasium and Complex in Yenogoa.
“In our resolve to have a permanent training venue, for the past two years I have been constructing a wrestling gym and now an accommodation complex in Yenogoa.
“We want the centre to also accommodate wrestlers from the west African region. Consequently, we applied to the UWW (United World Wrestling) for a grant to acquire some equipment for the training facility. $60,000 grant has been approved. It will be used to purchase a 150 KVA generator, wrestling mat, a fairly used bus and a few physical conditioning sports equipment. UWW will directly pay the suppliers. The Generator has already been delivered.
“If we ever get $60,000 as grant, within 6 years, Nigeria will be one of the super powers in world wrestling in virtually all styles of wrestling”, Igali stated.
The President said that the Bayelsa state Governor Seriake Henry Dickson has also pledged to match this same gesture.
