It is a December to remember as Federal Government of Nigeria intervened on time to ensure that one of the D’Tigress Superstars, Nkem Akaraiwe would have her surgery at Dubai.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has also lauded the efforts of the Minister of Youths and Sports, Hon. Sunday Dare for giving out his overall best possible to source for funds for the injured D’Tigress star, Nkem Akaraiwe.
The NBBF president, Musa Kida in a statement in Lagos on Wednesday enunciated that the efforts of the FG to donate an amount of 15,000 dollars is highly recognized and that, to the NBBF in general, a Christmas gift in addition to the 10,000 dollars earlier received from Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state facilitated by the Hon. Minister of Youths and Sports.
The NBBF President, in his statement appreciated the gestures of FG, “We cannot thank the Minister enough for coming through for one of our top basketball players who got injured on national duty. We are really grateful and delighted that Akaraiwe can go for surgery, recover on time and get back to court” He said.
Akaraiwe, who participated in FIBA 2018 Women World Cup suffered a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament at the Beach Games in Cape Verde and since then, found it difficult to raise funds for surgery.
Following the timely financial intervention by FG, the NBBF president perceived this as a boost in morale of all athletes, “This will continue to encourage more Nigerians to strive for glory while representing the nation” He remarked.
