Abdulateef Abiola’s lone goal in the first half was all Wikki Tourists needed to nip it against unlucky Ikon Allah Boys.
There was so much excitement at the parked crowd of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi for Wikki Tourists first game of the season, Niger Tornadoes however began the encounter much more in control of the game, before the home team took over possession with their trade mark counter attacking football to the admiration of home fans.
Solid defensive partnership between Sunday Akinmoladun and Abiodun Adebayo almost made life difficult for the host, not until the fortieth minutes when Abdulateef Abiola benefited from a counter attacking move and was on hand to tap in from close range to put his team ahead, shortly before half time.
Second half resumed with Niger Tornadoes making a quick change as Ahmadu Liman replaced Yahaya Adamu, the diminutive midfield dynamo made immediate impact as he brought more energy and zeal in the midfield, combining well with Lukman Mohammed in tormenting the host with several incursions into the box, but poor final judgement was the greatest undoing for the visitors having severely came close to finding the leveler but were not clinical enough.
Speaking during the post match interview, Niger Tornadoes head Coach Abubakar Bala Mohammed commended his players for giving a good account of themselves against a strong Wikki Tourists side playing their first game of the season. He added that the team will go back and prepare for the next game which comes up in midweek.
