Rafiat Lawal, one of the Oyo State weightlifting 2022 Commonwealth gold medalist won three gold and 3 silver medals at the on going 33rd Edition of African Weightlifting Championship holding at Tunisia.
The athletes from Nigeria are made up of three women and two men in five categories. The men flag rates are 2022 Commonwealth Bronze medalists: Umofia Edidiong Joseph 73kg and Akano Desmond 89kg imem category. The women category on the list include 2022 Commonwealth Gold medalists: Lawal Rafiat 59 kg , Olarinoye Adenike Adijat 59 kg and Eze Joy Ogbonne in 71kg .
Nigeria is among the 21 countries that participated in the Championship that will also serve as a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympics Games. Not fewer than 180 athletes across the nations of the world are participating in the championship at Hammad Ben Ammar, Hall in La Goulette, Tunisia
