Super Falcons who went extra miles to defeat the hosts, Ivory Coast by 5-4 on penalty shoot out after playing a one all draw at regulation time was a team predominantly with home based players
Earlier, semi final duel between the title holders, Black Queens of Ghana and Super Falcons was also settled via penalties as the match ended goaless at the regulation time. The two arch rivals dug it out in a fierce manner where they separated Women from girls, and Nigeria zoomed into the finals for the first time
Erstwhile National Secretary of Nigeria Eagles Supporters Club, Kemi, while addressing Journalists in Agege Soccer Temple during Lagos State F.A Cup said :
“I must give kudos to our home based Super Falcons for making us proud this time. You would recall that we were defeated at the semi final stage of the maiden edition of WAFU tournament and everybody felt bad about the performance of our home based girls. I can vividly recollect what Chairperson, Nigeria Board of Women League, Madam Aishat Falode said here that our league is full of potentials that can conquer the world and I think our home based players have proved the chairperson right”
” I sincerely believe that Nigeria League has all what it takes to produce top players that can represent this country anywhere and what we need do is to encourage these players and coaches to churn out the best
“I also like to salute the effort of the NFF on this team, they did a great job in terms of preparation, camping and couple of friendly matches before the tournament. They deserve all the accolades and I know they camped in Abuja before they left for Cotedvoire
Reacting on the forth coming FIFA Women World in France, light skinned administrator said the Super Falcons have what it takes to surprise the world. I think they should only believe that any team is beatable at the world stage and Atlanta’96 is a message for them where our boys shocked the world beating the so called world foootball giants- Brazil and Argentina to win the gold medals.
“If the information I have here serves me right, most of these girls that played in the WAFU tournament are home based and they did a great job. So we should expect better performance in France when the likes of Rasheedat Ajibade, Rita Chikwelu, Asizat Oshola, Oparanozie, and the rest of others join the team. I’m also aware of their training tours and capable hands in the coaching crew, so let’s just support them and pray for the team to succeed in France” .Kemi Ogunfuwa Popoola solicits.
