Ijebu United capped their superb run in the Nationwide League One (NLO), Division One season with promotion to Nigeria National League(NNL) after they defeated Olisa FC 3-1 on penalties in the play-off held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.
Both Ijebu United and Olisa FC deserved to lock horns in the play-off after leading their group logs with 17 points and 10points respectively.
The play-off lived up to it hype with beautiful football artistry and was forced into spot kicks after it ended 1-1 in favour of both teams.
Olisa drew first blood as they took the lead after Jimoh Jamiu opened the scoring in the 25th minute of the game as he beats his marker and scores with a clever finish.
With 28 minutes to end the game, Ogusa Chuks gave Ijebu United a lifeline after levelled the scoreline to make it 1-1. No other goal was recorded as the tie ended in a stalemate.
Players of Olisa FC will rue their misses as they missed three of their spot kicks and only converted one while Ijebu United scored only three which was enough to earn them second-tier league football next season.
