Remo Stars Halt 3SC’s Dream; Ikorodu City Upsets Al Merrikh in Valuejet Preseason Tournament

The defending champions, Shooting Stars, faced a tough challenge from Remo Stars B in an exciting match on Matchday 3 of the Valuejet Preseason Tournament. The game started brightly for Shooting Stars, with Christian Pyagbara scoring from the penalty spot in the 59th minute, putting them ahead 1-0.

However, the momentum shifted in the 71st minute when Remo Stars B equalized through a penalty of their own, expertly converted by Nduka Junior. Just four minutes later, a quick counter-attack saw Nduka Junior set up Ibrahim Shuaib, who calmly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Akande Abiodun, giving Remo Stars B a 2-1 lead. In the day’s second game, newly promoted NPFL side Ikorodu City delivered a stunning performance against CAF Champions League contender Al Merrikh. The match began with a bang, as Farouk Salami confidently converted a penalty in the 7th minute, sending Olorunleke Ojo the wrong way and putting Ikorodu City in the lead.

Al Merrikh fought back, levelling the score in the 44th minute with a spectacular volley from Mohammed Hashim. However, Ikorodu City proved their mettle in the 80th minute, as Alade Solomon fired a brilliant shot inside the area to beat Garas Kafi, securing a memorable 2-1 victory.

These results have shaken up the Valuejet Preseason Tournament, with underdog teams Remo Stars B and Ikorodu City making headlines by defeating more established opponents. The tournament continues to surprise and entertain, highlighting football’s unpredictable and thrilling nature.
