The best players were picked for World Cup – Aigbogun

Flying Eagles coach Paul Aigbogun has admitted it was difficult to name a final 21-man squad for the U20 World Cup because of the fierce competition in the team, but in the end only the best players will be in Poland.

As many as nine players who did not feature at the recent U20 AFCON in Niger, where Nigeria placed fourth.

“Deciding on the final squad was difficult because so many of players actually gave a good account of themselves both in training and matches, but we cannot take every one to the tournament,” he told the online media

“I’m still pained that some of them have been in the team for long, but in the end they didn’t make the list.

“We were meticulous with the selection as we just have to go with the best players and also consider some players ahead of others because they can function effectively in two, three positions, which is a big advantage going into a major tournament like this.”
